15 Content Ideas for Your Direct Mail Newsletter

By , July 9, 2019 | Marketing

One of my favorite marketing tools that we use at Conlin’s is our direct mail newsletter. The tactile interaction with paper and ink gives our customers a more memorable brand experience than anything we could do online. You can read more about the benefits of this form of content marketing here.

Coming up with content for a newsletter month after month can be a challenge. Here, we’ve listed fifteen of our favorite content ideas to help you through your brainstorming process.

1. Repurpose blog posts into articles

This is one of my favorite ways to get newsletter content. At Conlin’s, our online audience is not necessarily the same as the people who are on our direct mail list. We get more mileage out of the time we spend creating content by utilizing it both for print and digital outlets.

2. Employee Spotlight or profiles

We like to feature one employee and a short paragraph that tells a unique fact about them. You could also write an entire article about one employee, or profile a few employees at once.

3. Behind-the-Scenes photos

Got fun photos from an office party or a company picnic? Share them with your customers and tell them about the great time you had.

4. Highlight specific products or services

Have a new product or service that your company is offering? Showcase it in in your newsletter!

5. Letter from the Owner

A letter from the owner is a great way to show your readers the face behind the company. It’s much more personal than hiding behind a brand!

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Answer questions that your customers ask regularly. Do it by writing an article that directly answers one of those questions, or try it in Q&A format.

7. Share the history of your business

Use your newsletter as an opportunity for some brand storytelling. Share your company history or an anecdote from your past to let your readers know a little bit about where you came from.

8. Create an infographic

Infographics are informative, and they are an easy way for readers to digest information about your area of expertise.

9. Survey your customers

Use your newsletter as a way of gathering information about your clientele so you can better serve them.

10. Showcase positive customer reviews

Cite positive reviews from Yelp!, Facebook, or ask your best customers for reviews.

11. Ask for social media followers

Let people know you’re on social media and invite them to follow you. If you need to grow your social media presence and have a good direct mail list, this invitation is a great way to grow
your presence.

12. Display a few images from a social media feed

In our newsletter, we love to show a few of the most recent images from our Instagram feed. It’s a great way of letting people know you’re on social media and giving them a taste of the content they’ll find.

13. A coupon or promotional offer

Include a coupon or promotional deal in your newsletter to help drive a response from your customers.

14. How-to or tutorial

Write a tutorial on something that your customers commonly ask questions about.

15. Company update

Let your customers know what’s going on behind-the-scenes at your company. It’s a great way to keep them updated on new services, product launches, and more.
